The fight for the new Sefton Central constituency (Aintree Village, Blundellsands, Formby, Freshfield, Great Crosby, Hightown, Ince Blundell, Little Altcar, Little Crosby, Lunt Village, Lydiate, Maghull, Melling, Sefton Village, Thornton & Waddicar) is hotting up with former BBC Radio Merseyside broadcaster Richard Clein running for the Lib Dems.
Sefton Central - A LD/Tory marginal with Labour out of it. Currently serving on the party’s ruling body, the Federal Executive, he believes the Liberal Democrats can win the new Sefton Central seat.
Huge swing to Lib Dems in Manor Ward by-election - Richard says: "When the people of Sefton last went to the polls in May 2007, the result proved that this new parliamentary seat is a straight fight between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. This was then further emphasised by the result of the Manor Ward (Thornton, Hightown, Little Crosby & Eastern Crosby) by-election on 25th October '07 which saw a massive swing from the Conservatives and Labour to the Lib Dems who are now just 150 votes from winning that ward. Labour came a very poor third."
