Clein puts Tories on the back foot in new Sefton Central seat

The fight for the new Sefton Central constituency (Aintree Village, Blundellsands, Formby, Freshfield, Great Crosby, Hightown, Ince Blundell, Little Altcar, Little Crosby, Lunt Village, Lydiate, Maghull, Melling, Sefton Village, Thornton & Waddicar) is hotting up with former BBC Radio Merseyside broadcaster Richard Clein making the running for the Lib Dems.

Sefton Central comprises 21 seats

Conservatives hold 11 (down 1), Lib Dems 10 (up 1), Labour have none!

Sefton Central is clearly a Lib Dem/Tory marginal seat with Labour well out of the race. Political pundits can see the Lib Dems winning the seat at the next General Election.

Big swing to Lib Dems

in Manor Ward (Hightown, Thornton and part of Crosby) as Lib Dems take seat from the Tories

Richard says: "When the people of Sefton last went to the polls in May 2008, the results proved that this new parliamentary seat is a straight fight between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. This was clearly shown by the result in Manor Ward where a big swing away from the Conservatives and Labour delivered the seat to Lib Dem candidate Cllr. John Gibson. Labour came a very poor third. What's more Manor ward, which has 3 Councillors, is the ward of the Conservative's Parliamentary candidate who is now looking over her shoulder just to save her Council seat at the next Sefton elections."

There is no doubt that in this seat the contest will be between Lib Dem Richard Clein and the Tories. Labour doesn't stand a chance.
