Lib Dems back our local Green Belt as other parties try to ditch it
Astounded Lib Dem councillors who have spent years defending the Green Belt that makes the Sefton East Parishes part of the Borough so unique say they are sick of hearing both Labour and Conservative national politicians bashing the Green Belt.
Says Cllr. Tony Robertson "Our campaign to fight off Peel Holdings who have their eyes on a huge chunk of prime agricultural Green Belt land between the M57 and Brewery Lane in Melling continues and we want to thank the many residents who are supporting the campaign.
However, it seems that both Conservatives and Labour are falling over themselves to remove the protection that Green Belt areas have from developers. Have they gone mad? So much for the Tories trying to ape Labour, this time it is Labour following the Tories lead on Green Belt bashing!
Together with Maghull and Melling residents we successfully fought off the previous big attack on our Green Belt. This was on land bounded by the Liverpool Ormskirk railway line, Poverty Lane and the M58 motorway and we have manned the barricades again to warn off Peel Holdings.
The Green Belt makes our communities pleasant places to live so our message to the other two parties is hands off our Green Belt
