Recycling in Sefton!
PLASTIC RECYCLING CAMPAIGN, FIRST ROUND WON
Sefton residents Sefton can now recycle plastic bottles at a number of 'bring'
sites in the borough.
There are now 20 banks at 12 locations around Sefton that accept plastics in
addition to aluminium cans,
tins, paper, glass, shoes and textiles. The bring banks are operated by Sefton
Council with all the bottles
and plastic materials collected later recycled.
All plastic products now carry a number on them ranging from one to seven.
The new bring banks in Sefton
accept polymer types one, two and three which include fizzy drink bottles, milk bottles, detergent bottles,
washing up liquid bottles and mineral water bottles.
The move is designed to reduce waste and increase the opportunities for residents to recycle and encourage
even more people to go 'green'.
Lib Dem Environment Cabinet Member, Cllr David Tattersall, says:
"I know many residents would like plastic
bottles to be collected house-to-house in the Green Bee recycling box, but, unfortunately, this is not an
environmentally sound or financially prudent system.
Plastics are considered to be unsuitable for kerbside collection due to their high volume and low weights
making collection for recycling very expensive.
The priority is to collect heavy materials and divert biodegradable garden waste away from landfill in
order to try and avoid huge Government fines that would impact on Council Tax.
So far recycling banks have worked extremely well in Sefton and we hope the introduction of a plastics
recycling facilities will be just as popular and make it easier for people to recycle as much waste as
possible."
For more information on the Green Bee recycling scheme and other recycling initiatives contact Sefton

Recycling locations can be found at www.recyclenow.com.
The local sites accepting plastic types 1, 2 and 3 are: ASDA in Aintree, Somerfield in Maghull, Tesco in
Formby, Ince Blundell Village Hall, Moor Lane car park in Crosby, Crosby Civic Hall car park, Somerfield in Bootle and Litherland Sports Park.
Mersey Waste Holdings have still not decided to provide plastic recycling at our local "tips".
The only one where they do accept plastics is the new centre at Irlam Rd, Bootle, but not at Sefton
Meadows our local site. The Lib Dem Team continues to press this matter via Merseyside Waste Disposal
Authority and we will update residents as things develop.
